Thereâs something magical about running in Octoberâthe crunch of leaves underfoot, the cool air, and the energy of the season. But for runners across the country, Halloween isnât just about candy and costumesâitâs about community, creativity, and fun runs with flair.
According to Womenâs Running, there are roughly 1,800 Halloween-themed road races held each year in the U.S. In fact, Halloween ranks as the second most popular holiday for running events, just behind Thanksgiving. That means runners everywhere are trading their turkey trots for trick-or-trot races.
And the momentum keeps growing: Running USA reports that race participation is up about 8% in 2024, with more people than ever getting back on the start line. The New Yorker even dubbed costume running âa more inclusive and social form of racing,â turning competitive miles into celebrations of creativity.
At the Brewery Running Series, we see that same energy in every community we visit. This past weekend we hosted 12+ Halloween-season events across 11 BRS locations (MNÂ hosted a 2x double-header). We had a blast!Â
Thatâs thousands of steps (and sips!) that prove running can be about joy first, finish lines second.
So why are runners drawn to Halloween races?
As we wrap another spooky-season of runs, weâre reminded that our favorite part of any run, is THEÂ FUN.
